Baseball

l Atomic City Sports will play host to the fourth annual USSSA Peach Belt Border Bash NIT youth baseball tournament on Sept. 13-14 at Citizens Park in Aiken. The tournament is open to all baseball teams 8-18U. For entry information, visit www.atomiccitysports.org or call (803) 292-9993.

Basketball

- The AUG Lady Ballers will hold a benefit event on Oct. 11 at the YMCA on Wheeler Road to help raise money for the Alzheimer's Association. The event will consist of a dance off, fashion show, basketball games for men and women, and motivational guest speakers. Fencing

- The Augusta Fencers Club is now holding registration for a 10-week beginners foil class. The class is for ages 14 and up and will meet on Thursdays from 6 to 6:50 p.m., beginning today . Fishing

- The Town of Jackson, S.C., will hold a fishing tournament on Oct. 11. The tournament will be held at the Aiken County Boat Landing. Contests will include different categories of fish. For more information, call Lynn Sullivan at (803) 471-9778.

Football

- The Aiken/Edgefield District of the South Carolina Football Officials Association is looking for individuals interested in becoming football officials for the 2008 season and beyond. - The Eagle Sports Guardians football team is looking for private and home-school students ages 13-18 to play for its team. Golf

l The USC Aiken women's basketball team will hold a "Fun-Raising" Golf Tournament on Sept. 15 at Woodside Plantation in Aiken. The tournament will have three formats: The "Three Pointer Flight," for men's, women's or mixed teams. It will be lauderdale with 80 percent handicap. Cost is $75 per player, $300 per team; The "Free Throw Flight," for men's, women's and mixed teams. It will be captain's choice/scramble. Cost is $75 per player, $300 per team; The "Lay-up Flight," for women only. It will be a nine-hole captain's choice/scramble. Cost is $45, $180 per team. Proceeds go to fund the team's participation in the Disney Division II Tip-Off East Coast Classic. - The Masters City Golf Association will hold its 25th annual Golf Classic Tournament from Sept. 19-20 at Forest Hills Golf Club. Entry fee is $135. Format will be individual 36-hole stroke play. - The 17th annual Young Life Golf Marathon will be held at Goshen Plantation on Sept. 22. The 54-hole marathon and 18-hole lauderdale format event will benefit the Young Life Augusta high school ministry. For more information, contact the Young Life office at (706) 733-2507.

- The Palmetto Kiwanis Club of Aiken will sponsor the "Go Fore the Green" charity golf tournament on Sept. 26 at Midland Valley Country Club. Format is four-person captain's choice. Check-in is from 8 to 8:30 a.m., with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $50 per person to benefit Kiwanis-sponsored youth programs. - Wackenhut is holding its 21st annual United Way Golf Tournament on Oct. 20 at Woodside Plantation Country Club in Aiken. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with a putting contest to be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and there will be a shotgun start at noon. The cost is $440 per foursome, with the entry fee donated to United Way. The tournament will be captain's choice format, and there will be a gross and a net handicap division. Lunch and dinner will be provided for tournament participants. Lacrosse

- A lacrosse league is forming for interested players ages 18 and up. No experience is necessary. The league will be run by current high school coaches. Practices and games are on Sundays at noon at the Kroger field in Evans. For more information, call (706) 854-1908.

l The third annual December Dash 10K will be held at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park on Dec. 6 at 9 a.m. Proceeds benefit Southeastern Natural Sciences Academy's environment research, education and outreach programs. For more information or to register, go to www.active.com.

Rugby

- The Augusta Rugby Football Club invites all people interested in playing rugby to practices each Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Julian Smith Casino ballpark. Running

- The Bird Dog Breakaway 5K run/walk will be held on Sept. 27 at 8 a.m., beginning at the Waynesboro City Park on Liberty Street, Hwy. 25, in Waynesboro, Ga. Registration is at www.nbeginnings.org or race day beginning at 7 a.m. All of the proceeds from the event will benefit "The Center for New Beginnings," a ministry to special-needs children.

- The Cumbee Center Whiskey Road Race will be held Oct. 4 . The race will start and end at the Odell Weeks Recreation Center in Aiken. There will be a 2-mile race beginning at 7:30 a.m., a 10K at 8 a.m., a 1-mile for ages 16 and under at 9:15 a.m., a half-mile for ages 8-under at 9:30 a.m., and a tot trot for ages 5 and under at 9:40 a.m. The pre-registration fee for the 10K and 2-mile run is $15, the 1-mile is $10, and the half-mile and tot trot are $5. A late fee of $5 will apply to the 10K and 2-mile race after Oct. 1. Day of the race registration will be available starting at 6:45 a.m. All proceeds benefit the Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons. - The 11th Annual Bolivia Benefit Walk/Run will be held Oct. 11 at Riverview Park in North Augusta. Proceeds from the event will go toward the 2009 Bolivia Mission, sponsored by Grace United Methodist Church, which provides aid each year to the impoverished people living in the Andes Mountains region of Bolivia.

The course for the run/walk is flat and will run through the North Augusta Greeneway. Start time is 8 a.m. for the 1-mile children's run; 8:30 for runners; and 8:45 for walkers. Also included is a 100-yard tot trot for ages 4 and under. Prizes are handmade by the poorest of the Andes residents. Entry fee for the event is $15 if postmarked by Oct. 1 and $17 after that date. The children's run and tot trot are $10 and $12, respectively. All pre-registered participants will receive a free T-shirt. Tennis

- The Petersburg Racquet Club Fall Tennis Classic will be held on Sept. 11-14 at the Petersburg Racquet Club in Martinez. Divisions are men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles from 3.0 to open. There will also be a "hacker" division for players level 2.5 and under. Cost is $40 for the doubles divisions, $15 for the "hacker" division.
