Healing aspects of gardens to be discussed

Soothing and relaxing spaces will be the focus of Chris and Sandy Randall's workshop, Healing Gardens and Gardens That Attract Wildlife.

The workshop will begin at 6 p.m. today at the Augusta-Richmond County Headquarters Library.

"We chose to talk about healing gardens because that is one of the newest things people are talking about now," Mrs. Randall said. "Healing gardens usually contain something with a fragrance, which relaxes you; a small water feature, which is also soothing; and a place to sit to take it all in. The beauty of it is that it can be a large or small space."

The Randalls will also explain what types of plants attract butterflies and hummingbirds, and how to create and maintain bird feeders.

The Randalls, who are master gardeners, will use their garden as an example during a PowerPoint presentation and will distribute handouts to help others start their own gardens, Mrs. Randall said.

"We make what seems to be a large task simple for everyone," she added.

The workshop is one of many the couple lead throughout the year. They have also participated in the Augusta Home and Garden Show.

No registration is required for the workshop.
