The lead arson investigator for the Augusta Fire Department has been suspended, pending an investigation into DUI charges.

Lt. G.B. Hannan, 59, was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. June 28 on Broad Street. Police said he was driving without headlights. He was booked into the Richmond County jail and released just after midnight after being charged with DUI, according to jail records.

Augusta Fire Chief Howard Willis confirmed Thursday night that Lt. Hannan had been suspended effective Wednesday with pay until the investigation is complete.

Lt. Hannan is set to appear before a judge July 15, Chief Willis said.
