AIKEN --- Twenty-one suspects were arrested Thursday around Aiken County following a three-month undercover narcotics investigation by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
According to Lt. Michael Frank with the sheriff's office, the majority of the arrests were the result of undercover drug buys, although suspects were arrested for giving false information to police officers in order to protect the individuals being investigated for selling drugs.
"A lot of these people were selling drugs on their own," he said. "Multiple investigations were going simultaneously, and we brought them under one umbrella dubbed Operation Spring Cleaning."
