‘Messiah’ broadcast

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Evans will present a screening of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra’s live performance of Handel’s Messiah at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The work was performed Friday in its entirety by the choir and orchestra at the LDS Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, for the first time in a decade.

Sunday’s screening is free and will be preceded by an open house at 6 p.m., which will feature a self-guided tour of 25 paintings that depict the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.

StraightForward event

StraightForward Ministries of Augusta will present the Empowered for Change conference beginning at 9 a.m. April 26.

The daylong conference will be held at Gracewood United Methodist Church, 2117 Tobacco Road.

Speakers Danny Wallace, Dee Barnes and Dan Almeter will offer information about homosexuality and its impact on culture, youth and families.

Christmas Child

The Aiken Area Operation Christmas Child Team will hold a celebration at 10 a.m. April 26 in the atrium at Millbrook Baptist Church.

Operation Christmas Child has served more than 100 million boys and girls in more than 130 different countries since its inception in 1993.

Last year, the Aiken area’s five-county region collected 13,448 shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, personal hygiene items and personal notes, media relations coordinator Lance Danko said in a news release.
