West Town Community Church Director of Missions Woody Cook plays Santa during a 2011 trip to Mexico.

WHAT: Cinco de Mayo for Baja, a community fundraiser that supports missions to Mexico, featuring Mexican food and live Christian music

WHEN: 5 p.m. today

WHERE: West Town Community Church, 779 N. Belair Road, Evans

THE MISSIONS: Teens, preteens and families from West Town have traveled to Baja, Mexico, over the past four years to build a church. “The pastor in that community has such a heart for the children that he converted the church into two classrooms,’’ said Woody Cook, the church’s director of missions. This summer, a team hopes to return to expand the new school, which currently offers just kindergarten through fifth grade. With the addition, middle- and high-school pupils will be able to attend.
