Pray for the city


A prayer meeting will be held at Unity Missionary Baptist Church today for those who want to pray for the city.

The group meets on the third Saturday of each month. Today’s gathering begins at 4 p.m. at the church, 1829 Telfair St. Call (706) 738-7605 for more information.

Organ concert

Organist Keith Shafer will present a Rose Sunday concert at St. Paul’s Church, 605 Reynolds St., at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Included will be music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Harrison Oxley, Felix Mendelssohn, William Mathias, Gerre Hancock and Charles-Marie Widor, according to Shafer, the director of music at the church since 1983.

Stephen Ministry

Christian caregiving is the topic of an upcoming half-day workshop at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken on April 14.

Three sessions will highlight the role of Stephen Ministry, named for St. Stephen, in which laypeople in the church care for those experiencing grief, job loss, illness, crisis or other difficulties.

The sessions preview future training opportunities with Stephen Ministry and cover topics including Ministering to Those Experiencing Grief and How to Care in a Distinctively Christian Way.

The event begins with registration at 8 a.m. April 14. The cost is $15 per person or $50 for a group of four or more from the same congregation.
