Angel Tree Program

Christmas shoppers are needed for The Salvation Army of Augusta’s Angel Tree Christmas Assistance Program.

During October and the first week of November, the organization accepted hundreds of applications from families in need. An Angel Tree tag was created for each child. The tags feature the child’s first name, age, gender and gift wishes, including items such as shirts, shoes, coloring books and bicycles. The tags are placed on Christmas trees at all six area Walmart stores, the Augusta Mall, CSRA Credit Union, the Kroc Center and the three Salvation Army Family Thrift Stores.

To adopt a child for Christmas, remove the tag from the tree, shop for the items and return the tag and unwrapped gift to the same place the tag was displayed.

The last day to select a child is Dec. 9. Toys will be distributed on Dec. 20.

“If you’re already out Christmas shopping, this is an easy way to help others in need,” Capt. Wilma Mason, Salvation Army of Augusta administrator, said in a statement.
