Not only is Tiger Woods returning to the sport of golf, but he is making that return here, at the world-renowned Masters tournament.
Many locals fear that with the reemergence of Woods will come a wave of uninvited intruders, hoping to get a quote from the famous golfer. Mayor Deke Copenhaver is comparing this year’s tournament to James Brown’s funeral as far as the media frenzy goes.
As a local teen, I hope the influx of reporters and paparazzi will not take away from the refinement that is so prevalent at the Augusta National Golf Club. Luckily for locals, security measures have been an important part of the tournament and this one is expected to be no different.
The Augusta National Golf Club strictly limits their media coverage, allowing a small number of reporters within the gates.
I’ve noticed many locals who are not regular attendees of the Masters Tournament are trying to find a way to attend this year. It seems that the increased media coverage of Tiger Woods has increased the desire to attend the tournament.
I expect this year’s Masters to be highly attended, as interest peaks. However many people and media coverage are seen at the tournament, I am sure that the security will be as tightly run as usual.
