To enjoy 'Gina's Wedding,' young cast will just wing it

There is something missing in the Augusta Players Youth Theatre's current production: A script.

This weekend, a large cast of teens will improvise their way through Tommy and Gina's Wedding , an interactive theatrical experience.

"There is no written dialogue. All we have are cues and a timeline of events, and we go from there," said Mary Hadsell, 16, a junior at John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School who plays Delilah, a bridesmaid. "The improv forces the energy in the show to stay really high. We all have to be completely in tune to everything that happens, whether we expect it or not."

The production will be staged at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 402 Aumond Road. Tickets are $15, which includes dinner catered by Sticky Fingers.

The show is described by director Brandon Brune as "a redneck romp through matrimony in the spirit of Tony n' Tina's Wedding ."

The troupe chose to produce an original version of that long-running off-Broadway play to ensure their show was more family-friendly. According to cast members, this is a show that is going to make everyone in the audience laugh.

"All of the characters have their own independent personal conflicts and they all converge to make this hilarious spectacle at the wedding reception," says Mary, "It's all ridiculous but not entirely unrealistic."
