With a deaf grandmother, a forgetful, nervous weatherman, newfound love, missing persons and a plot full of misunderstandings, there is no end to the chaos in the play Moon Over Buffalo .
Harlem High School's state championship production's cast includes: Bethany Williams (Ethel), Heather Hinton (Charlotte Hay), Eric Mills (George Hay), Alex Martinez (Richard Maynard), Bridget Roberts (Eileen), Brian Jordan (Paul), Anthony Dyches (Howard), and Desiree Martinez (Rosalind Hay).
Here's the plot: characters George and Charlotte Hay realize they are getting too old for the acting business, even though they don't want to accept it. They've lost their last chance to be major stars in a Frank Capra movie. To complicate matters, their lawyer is in love with Charlotte, and the company ingenue is pregnant by George.
Harlem' s production has won the Region 3 AAAA and State AAAA Act Championships. The play took four months to rehearse.
"Plus, we're not done. We will start rehearsing again for a performance at the Georgia Theatre Conference," said Anthony Dyches, 17, a senior at Harlem High.
The show couldn't go on without the crew, which includes Megan Gilbert, Jared Jennings, Justin Guthrie, Tonya Spiller, Wayne Rodgers, Cory Buckner, Mike Brodine, Khadijah Wilson, Chris Nappier, Sam Andrews, Kyle Odom, and Ashton Montgomery.
Two of the eight actors received awards: Desiree for best supporting actress, and Anthony for best supporting actor.
They had fun in the process.
"The best thing about doing this play was entertaining people, having fun onstage, and making great friends," said Bethany, 17, a senior.
