Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney dropped from the race for the Republican Party's presidential nomination Feb. 7, leaving the front-runner, Sen. John McCain, a clearer path to the nomination. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee remained in the Republican race.

For the Democrats, Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were running neck and neck in the delegate count.


Tornadoes ravaged the South on Feb. 5 in the deadliest spate of storms in more than 20 years. The storms left 55 people dead, including 31 in Tennessee.
