THIS WEEK'S PROBLEM: "There's this guy, and I know that he knows I like him, but how do I find out if he likes me?" -- 16-year-old Augusta girl.
TEEN REPORTER SARAH DAY OWEN SAYS: Here's the deal: You say he knows that you like him. So, it would be easy for him to let you know if he likes you, because there's no chance he'll get rejected by you. You've done your share of the work. It's his turn to step up to the plate. But as you're still unsure what he thinks, that narrows it down to a few possibilities.
He might just see you as a friend, and doesn't want to tell you what he thinks because he doesn't want to hurt your feelings. Or, he might not know that you like him, after all. Ultimately, if you and the guy are a good match, it'll progress naturally.
Right now, I know waiting is difficult. and living in the land of the not knowing is no fun at all. But the best thing to do right now is to just be yourself and do what you want to do. Get involved in something you like to do, or even pick up a new hobby you always wanted to do, such as playing the guitar or costume design for the school play. You can start practicing for a sport you play that's not in season, or even pick up a new one.
Not only will the time go faster while you're waiting for Mr. Maybe to come around, but by focusing on yourself and what you want to do, you'll gain confidence. Eventually, you'll go from worrying about what he thinks to being confident that you're a catch, no matter what he thinks.
