After he returned from World War II, Henry H. McCurley intended to leave the Army and become a teacher, the job he had trained for in college.
But an extra $30 a month changed his plans.
The Army paid better than teaching, and that money would go a long way to feeding a family. So, Mr. McCurley stayed in the military.

Twelve years ago, while looking for arrowheads in Washington County, Ga., Bobby Strange encountered a curious green rock, unlike anything he'd seen before.
It was a tektite, one of many glassy meteorites, which range in size from a BB to a walnut. They are 32.5 million years old, found across middle and east Georgia and in only 10 other places on earth.
