About Me

I taught ninth-grade English; college speech and remedial English before realizing my lifelong dream to be a news reporter. After paying my dues at several newspapers in Georgia , I joined The Augusta Chronicle as an education reporter in 1990 and retired in 2008, which lasted almost a year. Now I am a columnist and sometimes reporter for the newspaper. During my career, I received several Associated Press and Georgia Press Association awards, the Lou Harris Award and the first and only Margaret Twiggs award. In 1995 I was the Chronicle’s Employee of the Year. My husband and I live on a nine-acre mini-farm in Thomson with our array of thrown-away American Classic dogs.
