PEMBROKE, N.C. – UNC Pembroke handed USC Aiken its first Peach Belt Conference loss, defeating the Pacers 78-69 Wednesday in a men's basketball game.
USC Aiken, which entered the NABC/Division II top 25 this week at No. 19, dropped to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the conference. UNC Pembroke improved to 12-5 and 6-1.
Ronald Zimmerman led the Pacers with 14 points. Re'mon Nelson and Sterling Council added 13 apiece. UNC Pembroke's Marcus Heath led all scorers with 23 points.
In the women's game, USC Aiken's school-record 12-game winning streak was halted with a 52-46 loss.
The loss was the first for the No. 11 USC Aiken women (13-2, 6-1 PBC) since falling to Ferris State in the Lander Lady Bearcats Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 19.
The Lady Pacers, who trailed by as many as 11, pulled within 47-46 after a Lindsay Sundberg 3-pointer with 49 seconds left, but they failed to score again.
USC Aiken shot just 30.4 percent (17 for 56).
Daniela Tarailo led the Lady Pacers with a game-high 16 points. Kayla Harris added 10.
Domonique Washington scored 14 points to lead UNC Pembroke (7-8, 4-3 PBC). DeDe Cotton finished with 11.
