AUBURN, Ala. - Dewanna Bonner, Alli Smalley and Sherell Hobbs led Auburn with 18 points apiece in a 83-72 win Sunday against South Carolina.
Bonner also led Auburn with 12 rebounds, three blocked shots and was 12-of-13 from the free-throw line. Tamela McCorvey added 15 points for the Tigers and six rebounds.
South Carolina (13-12, 2-8 Southeastern Conference) committed 19 turnovers that the Tigers turned into 19 points. Although the Gamecocks continued to battle from behind, Auburn was able to hold on to the lead at the free-throw line.
The Tigers (18-7, 6-4 SEC) converted 10-of-12 free throws in the last eight minutes of the second half and shot 76 percent for the game.
Auburn scored on its last 8-of-11 possessions to hang on for the win. Demetress Adams led the Gamecocks with 17 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Jones added 12 points while Ilona Burgrova had 10 points.
A 10-3 run with 4:12 left in the first half gave Auburn a 31-21 lead. The Tigers had a 37-33 halftime lead.
