Gamecocks' Shaw cleared to practice

COLUMBIA — South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw has been cleared to return to practice and coach Steve Spurrier thinks he’s on track to play when the 15th-ranked Gamecocks take on Florida this weekend.

Shaw had suffered a concussion in last week’s loss to Arkansas. Spurrier said Shaw was tested by doctors and given the green light for some throwing at practice. Spurrier said he’ll also work backup Dylan Thompson in with the first team in case Shaw is unable to go.

More problematic for the depleted Gamecocks is the condition of safety DeVonte Holloman, who also suffered a concussion last week but has not been cleared to practice and is questionable to play against the Gators.

The injuries are the latest in a long list Spurrier has dealt with this season.
