Why should I get my vamp on for books?

Sometimes I am not very good at my job.

Location matters when it comes to making films
Web-posted 09/04/08
Movies, just like a successful business, often depend on the location, location, location.
Do rock ballads still have staying power?
Web-posted 08/29/08
This week Daughtry (does this guy really merit the single-name thing yet?) released a version of the classic Foreigner lighter-lifter Feels Like The First Time as a recruitment tool for young voters. I'm curious as to how effective the gambit will be.
These movies' characters have forgotten more than we know

Memory can be slippery. This week, I had the fortune to reconnect with an old friend, someone with whom I had lost contact shortly after my wedding.
Plan doesn't bode well for '90210'
Web-posted 08/22/08
I had been observing the reemergence of the 90210 brand with what can only be described as a sense of casual disinterest. Never a fan of the original series, I somehow doubted the new show would, or was even meant to, appeal to me. Yes, I was aware there was a new 90210 in production but no, I wasn't making any plans for a Beverly Hills bash to usher in the new crew.
In great movies, it's no mystery the butler did it
Web-posted 08/21/08
I'll admit to the occasional pang of envy when observing the lives of the idle rich. I try not to be a materialistic guy but I have to confess that the established image of the well-pressed and beautiful tooling around in exotic cars, jet-set traveling or just relaxing by the pool, with cocktail in hand, seems pretty nice to me.
City's monster could be next cash cow
Web-posted 08/15/08
We've got golf and the Godfather, both great gimmicks, but it occurs to me that there might be another, perhaps even more effective way to lure the tourists.
Hayes found success in film, music
Web-posted 08/14/08
Isaac Hayes, who died Sunday at age 65, was a cultural icon who left his mark on movies as well as music.
Bands should go back to source by releasing covers of influences

James Taylor is doing it. Glen Campbell is doing it. David Bowie's attempt is most forgettable, and Rod Stewart's is so successful that he has done it a number of times. The Detroit Cobras have built a career around it.
Cinematic stoners contain a haze of befuddled comedy
Web-posted 08/07/08
With the release Friday of the two-toke action comedy Pineapple Express, and the recent announcement that Cheech and Chong, the forefathers of marijuana comedy, will reunite after 25 years apart, the entertainment industry is eager to explore the smoky exploits of the illegally impaired.
Hollywood lives wrapped before their creations did
Web-posted 07/31/08
Death is arbitrary. Death comes to us all. Death doesn't care about wealth or class. Death doesn't care about previous engagements or things left undone, and death certainly doesn't care whether you have a movie opening.
Dennis Wilson shines on re-released album

Music fans are taught not to expect too much from the drummer.
Some films are classics despite poor special effects
Web-posted 07/24/08
I found myself in a spirited debate recently with a fellow film fan who dismissed the original King Kong because, in his words, the effects were so bad.
