Alison Krauss & Union Station cancels May 18 show in Augusta

  • Follow Applause

Alison Krauss & Union Station has canceled its May 18 concert at James Brown Arena with Willie Nelson.

Krauss pushed back the start date of her tour by one week to May 8 so she can undergo a “minor medical procedure,” according to Rounder Records spokeswoman Regina Joskow. Two shows were canceled – including Augusta – and five shows were rescheduled.

“She just has to rest up a few days. She will be back on the stage May 8,” Joskow said. “She feels terrible about it.”

Willie Nelson will not come to Augusta for the tour date.

Refunds for tickets to the James Brown Arena show will be available beginning Friday. Refunds will only be made in the same payment method originally used to purchase the tickets.

For tickets purchased at the James Brown Arena box office, the purchaser must be present with the credit card used for the transaction and a valid ID.

Customers who purchased tickets through www.GeorgiaLinaTix.com or via phone at (877)-4AUGTIX will receive a refund to their credit card within five to 10 business days.

Pot / Kettle

Well, it gets hot in the Augusta summertime, but I wouldn't go as far as Willie said. I guess it takes one to know one.

Whiskey River Take My Mind

If his comments were about dope, there's probably more here than other places he hangs out.

They're still doing a show

They're still doing a show that day, it's just in Florida instead of Augusta....after playing Atlanta the night before. I would put money on the fact that it was due to ticket sales. Gotta cut this many shows to make this work; which ones have the worst ticket sales so far?

bdouglas has it right

Nobody interested in actually making money bothers coming to Augusta anymore. There simply aren't enough advance ticket sales to reassure performers like Alison Krauss and Willie Nelson that they even can cover their operating expenses.

This is the second Willie

This is the second Willie Nelson show cancelled. The first was definitely due to poor ticket sales. Typical fickle Augusta area residents.

Kinda glad

I was having buyer's remorse, so I'm kind of glad the show was cancelled. Not a huge Willie fan, but he is a country music legend. I couldn't understand why they book this in JBA rather than the Bell in the first place.

It's striking that noone in

It's striking that noone in the comments talks about wanting to see Krauss -- perhaps that's part of the ticket sales problem. In a lot of other towns, she'd be the primary draw over Willie.

Augusta seems more like a bad Nashville pop market than an old country/newgrass town.

I attended both ...

the last (separate) Allison Krauss w/Union Station band concert here in Augusta a couple of years ago as well as the last Willie Nelson concert. Allison Krauss concert- awesome (washed up? ridiculous). Willie Nelson, not so much. Willie's son Lukas (pretty bad) did an almost a 90-minute set before Willie came out. And Willie spoke (rather than sang) most of the lyrics to his songs - very disappointing. Glad I didn't buy tickets this time (not that I would have).

Too bad the promoters didn't substitute Johnny Tillotson for Willie.

A better gig apparently

Both alisonkrauss.com and willienelson.com have been updated with a May 18 concert date in St. Augustine, Fla.

Willie's website shows it as a makeup date for the May 6 show they pushed back for Ms. Krauss to deal with her minor medical emergency.

Some shows were rescheduled, ours was not.

On the upside, if you still want to see this show, the St. Augustine venue is a really great place to see a concert. Take a couple days and go to St. Augustine for a getaway!

"The delivery method charged will not be refunded." It cost me $3.25 to not see this concert. :(
