“A friend of mine painted, and she loved it,” said Swanson, who started developing her talent through local art classes. Her watercolors are available through her Web site, carolineswanson.com or at Art on Broad.
A member of several local and national art associations, including Augusta’s Women on Paper, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2013, Swanson is an award-winning watercolorist, receiving a Medal of Honor from the American Artists Professional League and a Silver Medal of Honor from Audubon Artists in New York in 2008.
Her work has been exhibited in various cities including New York, Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Texas, and Takarazuka, Japan, and has received multiple best of show awards nationwide.
“After I started, I really fell in love with it,” she said of painting. “Since I started late, I worked hard at getting better.”
Although Swanson’s primary medium is watercolor, she has experimented with other media.
“Oils attract me,” she said. She also likes adding texture to her work by using gesso or gouache.
