MENORAH LIGHTING

Chabad of Augusta will sponsor a menorah lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Augusta Common.

A seven-foot menorah will be lighted to celebrate the beginning of Chanukah. It will be followed by songs, greetings from Mayor Deke Copehaver, a children’s Chanukah performance, gifts for children and hot potato latkes.

The event will also feature a puppet/ventriloquist show.

A toy drive will be held at the event to collect toys for patients at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. Please bring a new, unopened toy. Monetary donations will also be accepted to purchase toys.

10TH DISTRICT MALE CHOIRS PERFORM

The 10th District Laymen Movement will present An Evening Jubilee in Spiritual Songs featuring the 10th District Male Choirs at 5 p.m. Dec. 7 at Greater Young Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 405 Sand Bar Ferry Road.

The theme will be the laymen speaking to each other in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

Each choir is asked to donate two cases of canned goods to Golden Harvest Food Bank. For more information, call (706) 724-1720.

COMMUNITY FUN DAY

Broadway Baptist Church and Strong Tower Christian Fellowship will present There Because We Care community event Saturday, Dec. 7 from noon to 3 p.m. at McDuffie Community Center, 3431 Old McDuffie Woods Road.

The free event will feature food, giveaways, hair cuts, résumé workshops and more. Various nonprofit organizations will offer information about their services to the community. In addition, the clothes closet will be open with coats and clothes available for those who need them.

CHRISTMAS AT CEDAR ROCK

Macedonia United Methodist Church will present its 13th annual Christmas at Cedar Rock event Dec. 12-14.

Guests can roast marshmallows, take a hayride through light displays, see Santa Claus and learn about the life of Jesus beginning with a live Nativity scene.

A Kid’s Only shop will be open for children age 12 and younger to purchase gifts for $1 each. A general store will offer handmade items for adults to purchase.
