The cultural series has expanded its performance schedule and given its patrons additional purchasing options.

“This season we’ve tried something a little different. We usually have five or six dance, music or instrumental performances,” said Juanita Palmer, the house manager for the USC Aiken Etherredge Center for Fine and Performing Arts. This year, there are seven performances.

The season begins with Tony Award-winning performer Hal Linden, who is probably best known for his 1970s television sitcom, Barney Miller. An accomplished clarinetist, saxophonist and band leader, Linden will bring a seven-member band to perform a variety of jazz tunes on Sept. 26.

Pianist Christopher O’Riley and cellist Matt Haimovitz will present Shuffle, Play, Listen on Oct. 10. The duo brings a blend of classical and contemporary pieces from artists such as Bach and Gabrielli, Radiohead and Arcade Fire.

Beyond Glory starring Stephen Lang is a one-man show highlighting the lives of Medal of Honor recipients in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The show, which is often presented at military bases, will be staged on Oct. 25.

The Broadway Boys will take the stage on Dec. 6 with its blending of tight harmonies in tunes from an array of musical genre. They infuse show tunes and classic pop songs with elements of funk, gospel, jazz and folk.

The Presidio Brass, a quintet from San Diego, will be in concert Feb. 8.

Southern Fried Jazz, a Dixieland jazz band from Charlotte, N.C., will perform on March 20. Bandleader, Don Edwards, has shared the stage with jazz greats such as Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.

The season finale features A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra on March 29. The self-conducted orchestra has recorded three albums and recently returned from a European tour.

Besides an additional performance or two in the season, there are more options for patrons purchasing season tickets.

“In the past, they would buy the entire season without much of a choice,” Palmer said.

There are four package options:

• The Full Cultural Series, with tickets for all seven performances, is $224 plus handling.

• The Etherrredge Classic includes tickets for four shows – Christopher O’Riley and Matt Haimovitz, Beyond Glory starring Stephen Lang, The Presidio Brass and A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra.

• Etherredge Light also features four events – Hal Linden, Beyond Glory starring Stephen Lang, The Broadway Boys and Southern Fried Jazz.

• The Etherredge Combo series features four events of the patrons’ choosing.

The Etherredge Classic, Etherredge Light and Etherredge Combo series are $128 plus handling.
