Symphony Orchestra Augusta and the Morris Museum of Art are sponsoring a smartphone photo contest for pictures of the Miller.

In early 2012, Symphony Orchestra Augusta started a campaign to renovate the Miller into a 1,300-seat concert hall, a music institute and space for other performing arts. The renovation is expected to be completed in 2015.

Submitted photos will be on display in the exhibition Snapshots of Time: Images of the Historic Miller Theater at the Morris Museum of Art. Voting for the winning images takes place during the exhibit’s opening reception, Oct. 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

“This new initiative is consistent with our efforts at the museum to bring art to the community and to involve as many people in the creation of art as we can,” said Matt Porter, the Morris Museum of Art’s assistant curator of education.

The winning photos will be announced on the Miller Theater’s Facebook page and on Twitter @MillerTheater.

Thank Goodness

Now that the Augusta Symphony (pardon me, but I hate that SOA brand) has committed to bring the Miller Theater to a world class performing venue (thanks to a generous matching grant from Augusta SPLOST taxpayers), it should put an end once and for all to calls for another taxpayer-financed performing arts theater. Between the Miller renovation, the Imperial makeover, the Augusta Mini-Theater building (also the recipient of a very generous grant from Augusta SPLOST taxpayers); we are covered up in performance spaces, and we don't need any more.

None of those existing

None of those existing facilities are $100 million PAC..... I'm very happy the Miller is being renovated, and the theater will become apart of the revitalization of the CBD.

Do people really think Augusta can attract the best and brightest if the Miller Theater was the main PAC? The answer is simply no...
