“I grew up in an art family,” said Lou Ann Zimmerman, who opened the gallery in 1996 with Michael Pearson, who has since moved to Beaufort, S.C. “My father made his living as a painter and artist so we spent our weekends and vacations at art venues.”

Her late father, Marc Moon, a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, was her first art teacher. She later attended Kent State and studied art there, but she married before she graduated. Her husband’s job with Westinghouse would take them to various parts of the country. She returned to school and took some business courses. Those courses and the mind-set of art as a business have been vital to her success, she said.

Zimmerman’s forte is painting.

“I like to paint, and I use all media. Right now, I’m using acrylics,” she said.

The medium is instant, she said. While she does use oils, their process is slower.

“When I’m working with oil, I may have five pieces at a time I’m working on,” she said.

Not only is Zimmerman’s work available, but she showcases other artists in other genres as well. The only paintings are those of her and her father, but she has pieces by potters and sculptors in addition to artists who work in wood and glass.
