The Music and Menus Festival starts with live music at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Evans Towne Center Park, headlined by The Marshall Tucker Band and including local artists County Line and The Mason Jars.
The festival continues Saturday, June 15, with activities including a morning pet adoption, live music from local bands and a locally focused food competition.
“We want a positive, uplifting thing that is really all family-encompassing,” said Cam Griffin, an organizer of the event. “We are really trying to hit something that is a community gathering.”
Crazy Turks, Birddog Grille and The Retreat are three of the many restaurants competing for culinary superiority, Griffin said. Local restaurants, individual chefs and catering companies will compete for prizes, including best entrée, best barbecue and best dessert. Patrons can vote for their favorites.
Also on Saturday, a 100-foot mural will be available for children and parents to paint free, with donations accepted for the Carlos Garth Jr. Benefit Fund. Carlos is a 9-year-old leukemia patient at Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
“The cause is really good, and I think the mural idea is really attractive for this venue and event,” Griffin said. “I thought it would garner a lot of interest for Carlos and get some money to help out his family.”
Net proceeds from the Music and Menus Festival benefit the Jenny Clark Memorial Scholarship Fund. After Clark was killed in a golf-car accident in 2000, her parents, Tom and Carol Clark, set up the fund in her memory, Griffin said. The scholarship assists local high school soccer players.
Griffin said the hope is to make the festival an annual event.
“It will be an all-encompassing, all-day-long festival that I think people will have a great time at,” he said.
Tickets for Friday night’s concert cost $20 in advance at www.etix.com, Fatz Cafe and Greubel’s Mixed Martial Arts Center. Tickets cost $30 at the gate. VIP tickets are available for $50. Saturday admission is free.
