Augusta parade, celebration is Saturday

DON YOUR GREEN and head out to downtown Augusta from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 16 – not on the real St. Patrick’s Day or you’ll miss it – for all the festivities.

The Irish-American Heritage Society parade starts at 2 p.m. with Billy Herman as the grand marshal. Entertainment and children’s attractions in addition to vendors and food will be at Augusta Common after the parade. Admission is free. The parade starts at James Brown Arena, goes down 7th Street to Telfair, Telfair to 11th Street, 11th to Broad Street and down Broad to 6th Street. Call (706) 821-1754 for more information.

KEEP THE HOLIDAY going through Tuesday, March 19, by attending the Tuesday’s Music Live concert series at St. Paul’s Church, 605 Reynolds St. Featured will be Irish fiddler Kevin Burke. Music begins at noon and the concert is free. A catered lunch after the concert costs $10 and requires a reservation. Call (706) 722-3463 or see

IF YOU PREFER to raise a glass to St. Patrick in a nightclub atmosphere, head to one of these shows:

• On Friday, March 15, Nappy Roots will perform a St. Patrick’s Day Show at Sky City, 1157 Broad St. See for more details.

• On Saturday, March 16, The Stables Restaurant at Rose Hill Estate (221 Greenville St. NW, Aiken; 803-648-1181) has a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration planned, as does Club Argos in Augusta (1923 Walton Way, 706-481-8829). Sky City plans a Funk You St. Patrick’s Day Party that night with The Ramblin’ Fevers, The Favors, Sibling String, Young Goodman Brown, Craig Waters and Griffen Eubanks on the bill. See

Parade Route

Do we have to call for information on the parade route? Can't you just tell us where it begins and ends, or at least what blocks of what street?
