There are few things that I look forward to annually: Thanksgiving, Christmas, MLK’s birthday, Augusta Exchange Club Fair, and the GHSU (formerly MCG) Children’s Medical Center Cares for Kids Radiothon.
Once again this year, Fattz and I and the entire team from 96.3 Kiss FM will broadcast for three days to help raise money for GHSU Children’s Medical Center. The 2012 Kiss Cares for Kids Radiothon is Thursday, Dec. 6-Saturday, Dec. 8 and is sponsored by William Mizell Ford and Evans Fitness Club. We will be broadcasting from the lower level of the medical center and, to be perfectly honest, it’s one of the most meaningful things that I get to do as a by-product of what I do.
Many people are not aware of how truly lucky we are to have a facility dedicated to the health and well-being of children. In fact, the Children’s Medical Center is the only facility in the area dedicated exclusively to children. It staffs the largest team of pediatric specialists in the region and they deliver both inpatient care and outpatient care. They cover everything from the common cold to life-threatening conditions like heart disorders, cancer and neurological diseases.
The people who work there are skilled at helping parents keep their children healthy socially, emotionally and spiritually as well as battling their illnesses. They understand the reality that taking care of a sick child often means taking care of the needs of their family.
The Children’s Medical Center has an amazing and dynamic array of people who care, in a place designed to nourish and care for children, teens and families from this community. Radiothon allows everybody to be a part of the dynamic.
There are a lot of people in need, not just during the holidays but every day, and often it becomes difficult to decide where to give, where to donate. There is no wrong cause. But here’s my take on it. Of all the gifts you give this holiday season, this one is so important. The money raised for the Cares for Kids Radiothon stays right here.
In the past, the money raised has been used to buy blanket warmers and rocking chairs for the pediatric intensive care unit, and to provide supplies for the educators who teach children who are hospitalized long term. Many of these children don’t get to enjoy the comfort of their own homes for Christmas. They spend their time hooked up to hospital equipment.
Your gift can not only help that time be more comforting but also save lives.
You can make a donation online at https://www.hospitalshelpingkids.org or call 1-866-412-5437.
Encourage your family and friends to donate, if not to this cause then to something that you care about as much as I care about this. It’s all about the kids and together we can make a difference. I truly believe that.
