“We are from New Orleans, where people tend to celebrate being alive,” said LeBlanc, the drummer and lead singer for the band, which will perform at this weekend’s Border Bash at the Augusta Common.
Border Bash begins at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, and will feature the University of Georgia and University of South Carolina cheerleaders, along with USC mascot Cocky and UGA mascot Hairy Dawg.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate with ages 12 and younger admitted free. VIP tickets are $50 for adults and $10 for children. Tickets are available at Circle K, Hooters and Communigraphics and online at borderbash.net.
Cowboy Mouth, a rock band that has been together for more than 15 years and has 11 recordings under its belt, brings a high-energy performance.
“It’s like a rock ’n’ roll religious revival without the religion,” said LeBlanc, who promises people will leave the concert uplifted.
“They will leave feeling a lot about themselves and life,” he said.
About 10,000 people are expected to attend the 19th annual event that will be back at the Augusta Common this year, according to event promoter Joe Stevenson, whose band will also play.
“This is a very family-friendly event,” Stevenson said. “It turns into a party later. Early on, there are cheerleaders, tailgate games. Kids can run around in the grass.”
Because of downtown construction, last year’s event was moved to the old train depot, but the Common is more conducive to the family-friendly atmosphere, he said.
Proceeds will go to area children’s charities. Throughout Border Bash’s history, more than $600,000 has been donated, benefitting organizations such as Boys and Girls Clubs of Augusta, Child Enrichment, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network.
