STEED’S DAIRY FARM: 4634 Wrightsboro Road (about two miles from Interstate 20 on Wrightsboro Road); (706) 855-2948, steedsdairy.com

The corn “Maize” is open through Nov. 18, from 5-10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 1-6 p.m. Sundays. It covers five acres and depicts the FFA logo.

Steed’s also offers a hay ride, a petting zoo, a jumping pillow, a giant tube slide, a corn kernel pit, a rubber duckie race and a kiddie play area, and a kid’s zip line to name a few things.

Or pick out the perfect pumpkin for your jack-o-lantern at the pumpkin patch.

Tickets are $12 with ages 2 and younger admitted free. The last ticket is sold an hour before closing.

The military will be honored Nov. 9-11 with free admission for all veterans and active-duty soldiers. Family members with ID will get in for the discounted group rate of $9.

KACKLEBERRY FARM: 1025 Verdree Road (take U.S. Highway 1 south to Louisville, Ga.; turn left on Middleground Road, at Ingles; then bear right on Gough Road; the farm is on the right); (706) 830-4968, kackleberryfarm.com

If you feel like taking a drive (and fall is a great time to cruise through the countryside), visit Kackleberry Farm in Louisville, Ga.

The farm is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 1-6 p.m. Sundays from Sept. 22-Nov. 11.

Their corn “maize” covers eight acres and is in the shape of a person riding a zipline. If you go after dark, make sure you bring a flashlight. But if you do forget yours, you can rent one from them.

The ziplines are not a new attraction, but they are improved for this season. There are now five ziplines ranging in length from 290 to 700 feet with aerial elements in between – one flies over the maze.

You can pick your jack-o-lantern here, too, from one of several types of pumpkins grown in the patch.

Other activities at Kackleberry include a barnyard, a hay jump (jump on haybales instead of trampolines), korn kannons, steer roping, duck racing, a jumping pillow, the Black Hole slide, a human hamster wheel and peddlecarts.

When you need a break from all of that fun, roast some marshmallows over a campfire or wander through the Posey Patch.

Tickets are $12, and children under 2 are admitted free. Kids ages 65 and older are $8, and military, law enforcement and medical personnel are $9 with ID. Group rates of $9 each are available for 15 or more guests.

GRAYSTONE RANCH: 1017 Hardy McManus Road (halfway between Augusta and Waynesboro on U.S. Highway 25); graystoneranch.com

The 500-acre Graystone Ranch is open year round, but they’re having their Fall Fest through Nov. 30. You can visit 7:30 p.m. to midnight Fridays, 10 a.m. to midnight Saturdays and noon to midnight Sundays.

Take a photo with a scarecrow, check out their wax hands or take a pony ride.

The Haunted Forest opens Sept. 23, and there will be fireworks over the lake every night.

Children can trick-or-treat at Halloween.

For less-frightening adventures, hike the trails, fish, visit the petting zoo, take a hay ride, or visit the gem and mineral museum.

Admission is $10 and is valid the entire weekend. You don’t even have to leave. The ranch offers cabin rental, an RV park and tent camping. Or, for a different experience, rent a teepee.
