The Pinch: Theaters offer discount movies for summer

It’s possible to enjoy a day at the movies on a budget. This summer, Regal Entertainment Group and Georgia Theatre Co. are showing movies for only $1.

Through Regal Entertainment Group’s Summer Movie Express program, moviegoers of all ages can see selected G or PG rated movies for $1 at 10 a.m.Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Doors open at 9.

Patrons can view the following films at Regal Theatres in Augusta and Aiken:

July 10 and July 11: Kung Fu Panda 2 and Rango

July 17 and July 18: Rio and Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World

July 24 and July 25: Chimpanzee and Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil

July 31 and Aug. 1: Arthur Christmas and The Smurfs

Regal’s local theaters are Augusta Exchange Stadium 20 & IMAX, 1144 Agerton Lane, and Aiken Mall 8, 300 East Gate Drive.

Customers who join the free Regal Crown Club program earn rewards when they go to the movies.

They can earn credits for free movies, popcorn, soft drinks and more. To sign up, visit www.regmovies.com.

Regal Crown Club members can purchase featured candy for $2 on Mondays with paid admission.

On Tuesdays, they can get the featured size of popcorn for $2 with paid admission.

Also at www.regmovies.com, patrons can learn more about special programs and offers, such as Regal Value Days and Premiere Super Saver Tickets, and sign up for a free e-mail to receive printable concessions coupons each week.

• Georgia Theatre Co. is presenting the 2012 Summer Kid Show Series through the end of July.

Patrons at Evans Stadium Cinemas can see movies for $1 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. Doors open at 9:15.

Two films will be shown each day, including 1980s movies.

Tickets can be purchased at the box office. For $1.50 each, patrons can get a kid’s size popcorn and drink. Here’s the schedule:

July 10 and July 12: Kung Fu Panda 2 and Top Gun

July 17 and July 19: Hop and The Karate Kid

July 24 and July 26: Happy Feet 2 and The Goonies
