The five-piece band is taking their act to the road when they perform a concert at the Columbia County Amphitheater as part of Columbia County’s fourth annual Blues, Brews & BBQ series.
“We’re looking forward to it,” said the group’s songwriter and lead guitarist, Keith Patterson. “It’s going to be a lot of fun down there.”
Formed about a year ago, the Keith Patterson Band is well known on the Myrtle Beach, S.C., nightlife scene, where Patterson is from.
After years of performing as a lead guitarist in several rock and blues bands, Patterson said he decided in 2010 to record his own album and later released Stone Cold Blue.
He recorded the 11-track CD with longtime friends, who became members of the band, including lead vocalist and keyboardist Danny Korzelius, bassist Drew Jacobs, second guitarist Brian McKenzie and drummer John Taylor.
“Radio stations started picking the music up and one thing led to another,” Patterson said.
The band’s fanbase extends from the South to as far away as London, he said.
The rock-blues group plays original music at shows, Patterson said, adding that Friday’s concert marks the first time they’ve performed in the Augusta area.
Also playing at the amphitheater on the same night is Augusta blues band, Shameless Dave and The Miracle Whips. The concert starts at 7 p.m., and admission is $5. Barbecue will be served by Shane’s Rib Shack.
“Where else can you get a night’s worth of entertainment for five bucks?” asked Columbia County Community Events Specialist Keela Colombraro.
The series continues on April 20 with the Mike Watson Band and Lockdown Blues Band. Cleve Edmunds Bar-B-Que will cater that night.
The series usually draws 500 to 1,200 people to the amphitheater each night, Colombraro said.
“Every night we always have a number of people that hang out after the bands have stopped,” she said. “They’re still hanging out in their lawn chairs, drinking their beers and just relaxing.”
No coolers or food from outside will be allowed inside the park.
