Her concert will include songs from her 2011 country-influenced CD Have You Met Lera Lynn?, which was produced and engineered by C.K. Koch.
Lynn began playing the violin at 11 and the guitar at 14. The native of Houston, Texas, played her first professional performance at 15 in a Mexican restaurant.
She moved to Athens at 19 and started a band called Birds & Wire that had a more bluegrass/jazz sound.
Among her primary musical influences are “Ray Charles for his soulful voice, Joni Mitchell for her candid lyrics (and) Johnny Cash for his style, delivery and indifference.”
Lynn has talked of her father being an addict and growing up in “a somewhat hostile environment.” That emotional background inspired many of her songs including Whiskey, the first song on her latest album, and also Bobby, Baby.
She wrote Bobby, Baby after finally getting to the point of acceptance and forgiveness about her father, who died several years ago.
