Mark Hall could see himself playing music in a local church and possibly even writing songs for other bands, but the lead singer for the Christian band Casting Crowns didn’t imagine the success he and fellow band members now enjoy.

Lindsay McCaul's debut, If It Leads Me Back, was released in August.

“I didn’t see myself as a youth pastor and traveling,” said Hall, who has found ways to juggle his responsibilities as youth pastor at Eagles Landing Baptist Church in Atlanta and traveling with the band.

Casting Crowns’ Come to the Well tour will be at the USC Aiken Convocation Center on Friday, Nov. 25.

The band’s debut album was a self-titled release in 2003.

Since then, Casting Crowns has received Grammy, AMA and Dove music awards. It has three platinum recordings and two gold records.

The song Voice of Truth was featured in the film Facing the Giants, and Slow Fade was used for the film Fireproof, leading to a collaboration with filmmakers on this year’s Courageous.

Hall said the first two films used songs already written, but for Courageous, he teamed up with Matthew West to create something special.

“When I heard the movie was about dads, I thought ‘I’m all over this,’ ” he said.

For Hall, his music and the films are all about the message they bring, and there is a message when the band comes to Aiken.

“We have three goals,” he said. “We want to see the gospel shared clearly. We don’t want to push religion, but being a follower of Jesus. We want people to have their own friendship with God, not a once-a-week trip to a building. And we want people to see we are all here with a purpose,” he said.

Also appearing with Casting Crowns will be Sanctus Real, The Afters and Lindsay McCaul.
