Tabitha Jones knows that dreams can come true.
Since childhood, Jones has wanted to become an actress, and today, she is touring across the country playing the character Belle from Beauty and the Beast with Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales.
After graduating from high school in Iowa, Jones moved to California to pursue an acting career. She landed a job at Disneyland Resort and later heard auditions were being held for Disney Live! She started working with Disney Live! four years ago, and her first role was as a stepsister in Cinderella.
“I’ve always loved the stage and being up there and performing and making people smile. This is my second show that I’ve done with Belle,” Jones said during a telephone interview.
The audience at Bell Auditorium can expect to be wowed by the show, she said.
“The lighting is amazing. Our costumes are designed by a Tony Award winner from Broadway, Gregg Barnes. The costumes are just spectacular. With the music, the staging and lights, I just love the way the show comes together. I think it’s one of the better shows out there,” Jones said.
Viewers can also expect to see well-known characters Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy telling three classic fairy tales, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, she said.
“They’re reading it from a story book, and it just comes to life right before their eyes. It’s filled with music, singing, dancing and all of these wonderful characters that people have grown to love over the years. I think it’s a pretty amazing show for all ages,” Jones said.
Jones was drawn to Belle’s character because Belle loves to read and Jones considers herself to be a bookworm. The character is also genuine, sincere and takes the time to know people, rather than judge them by their appearance.
When she’s on stage, Jones said it “warms her heart” when children call out to her, thinking that she really is the character Belle.
