Westobou Festival celebrates 10th

FUN … Westobou Festival Kickoff: 6-9 p.m. Westobou Gallery

MUSIC … Late Night Series: Chris Robinson Brotherhood, 10 p.m., Sky City; $12 in advance or $15 the day of the show

OCT. 4

MUSIC … Late Night Series: Cory Branan, 9 p.m., Metro Coffee House

WORDS … Theatre Aug Performance Works: 5 p.m., Westobou Gallery

OCT. 4-14

ART … Enigma: The Telephone Game: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Oct. 4-14, Westobou Gallery

Thirteen local artists will create artwork in response to the previous artist’s work, like in the game of telephone, where the message can become garbled along the way.

ART … Tracing Shadows: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 4-14

Contemporary art by Annie Kammerer Butrus and Yuken Teruya that examines art as a way to document change, beauty and fragility within the natural world.

MUSIC … Chamber Music Series: Balkan Quartet, 1 p.m., Church of the Good Shepherd

Live music with Funk You, Bethany and the Southside Boys; children’s fun factory – Proud Pollinators by Phinizy, Sweet Sticks Pop-up Plaza painted by artist Jacob Vaz, Augusta University Printmaking Club, take a spin on the Westobou Wheel

MUSIC … Chamber Music Series: Student Showcase Concert, 1 p.m., Augusta University

Students from the Augusta University Department of Music perform works from a variety of genres.

ART … Drawing and its Peripheries: 5-8 p.m., Jessye Norman School of the Arts

This exhibition of student artwork from the School of Visual Art at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., and the Department of Art &Design at Augusta University explores the notion of “contemporary drawing” through about 30 works that include sublimely crafted drawings in the historical tradition as well as works that challenge, expand, or defy assumptions of what drawing can be.

ART … Blue Hair: 5-9 p.m. Wolf and Finch

In this solo exhibition by Anna Patrick, the artist seeks to create a new level of interaction that is centered in thought and concept through new ways to display sculpture, specifically soft material.

Live music with DJ Kut Daily, Starlight Cinema screening of Beetlejuice, Fall Printmaking by Morris Museum of Art, Sweet Sticks Pop-up Plaza painted by artist Jacob Vaz, Augusta University Printmaking Club, take a spin on the Westobou Wheel

FUN … The Cinema Series at Augusta University: Inside/Out with music by Pylon Reenactment Society, 6-10 p.m., Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre; $15

Following several different bands from different genres, this film paints Athens, Ga., as a magical artistic environment where bands are not in competition, but co-exist in harmony. With tunes by R.E.M., the B-52’s, Love Tractor, Kilkenny Cats, Squalls, Flat Duo, Jim Herbert, Time Toy, B-B-Que Killers and more.

ART … Gallery Hop: 5-8 p.m.

Climb aboard the free trolley for stops at six exhibitions, including the Westobou Gallery, Ann and Ellie Johnson Gallery of Art at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, Wolf and Finch, Augusta Common and Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art.

MUSIC … Chamber Music Series: Jazz A La Française, noon, Church of the Good Shepherd

Musicians Martin David Jones, Travis Shaw and Edwin Hamilton present renowned composer Claude Bolling’s rarely heard masterpiece for jazz trio.

FUN … Westobou Central: 5-10 p.m., Augusta Common

Live music with DJ Kut Daily, Starlight Cinema screening of Coraline, children’s fun factory – Lovely leaves with Westobou Junior Board, Sweet Sticks Pop-up Plaza painted by artist Jacob Vaz, Augusta University Printmaking Club, take a spin on the Westobou Wheel

OCT. 8

MUSIC … Chamber Music Series: Russian String Orchestra, 3 p.m., Maxwell Performing Arts Center; $40

The Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society presents an orchestra that regularly tours throughout the world, traveling with 14 soloists … any of whom can be designated by the audience to perform a solo with the orchestra on the spot.

OCT. 10

MUSIC … Soul Night: 9 p.m., Soul Bar

Augusta’s longest running all-vinyl celebration of soul music hosted by a loose collective of soul music obsessives and DJs who cull their collections from basements, attics, charity shops and anywhere funky 45s can be found.

OCT. 11

FUN … Hillary-Marie’s Sole Music Collective featuring Wycliffe Gordon: 7 p.m., Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre; $25

Dancers of Sole Music Collective including tap dancer Hillary-Marie are joined on stage by renowned musician, composer, conductor and music arranger Wycliffe Gordon.

MUSIC … Southern Soul and Song: The Becky Buller Band with Kenny and Amanda Smith, 7 p.m.
