People have often said laughter is the best medicine. Get a good laugh at a comedy show or movie this week. Here are places that will tickle your funny bone.
SOMEWHERE IN AUGUSTA, 2820 Washington Road, (706) 739-0002: On Wednesday nights, you can enjoy The Comedy Zone at Somewhere in Augusta. The sports bar features two comedians touring the respected Comedy Zone circuit in the Southeast.
The Comedy Zone has grown to become the largest comedy club network in America. More than 3,000 comedians appeared at 100-plus venues last year, according to Somewhere in Augusta's Web site.
You must be 18 or older to enter. The show starts at 8 p.m., and the audience should be seated by 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 15: Phil Hogan and Chad Miller, 8 p.m., $8
Hogan has been in the entertainment business for almost 30 years, spending his early days as a touring musician. He first took to the stage as a professional comedian in 1990. His show is a blend of stand-up, original comedy songs, guitar goofiness and musical impressions.
Miller started his comedy career in 1997 when, on a dare, he took to the stage at an open-mic. Not long after that, he started opening regularly. He has also been involved in sketch comedy and theater. His fast-paced, physical act covers pro wrestling, marriage and characters he has created.
Sept. 22: Rich Guzzi, 8 p.m., $10. No passes, coupons or deals will be accepted.
After a dozen years on stage and radio, Guzzi continues to expand his repertoire by appealing to the masses as a blue-collar, self-help guy. His material is real life, and he considers himself a cross between Tony Robbins and Tony Soprano. His shows are a mix of hypnosis, self-help and motivation delivered in comedic form.
Sept. 29: Ward Anderson, 8 p.m., $8
Anderson's high-energy performances focus on life, love and relationships.
He is the author of the bestselling humor book The Ultimate Bachelor's Guide , a funny look at single men everywhere.
