'STOMP,'  'Rock of Ages' in Broadway series lineup

Garbage cans, brooms and other objects become musical instruments for the Broadway show STOMP.

Subscriptions are on sale for the 10th season of the Taylor BMW Broadway In Augusta Series.


There are eight season packages, starting from $99. For details, call 888-706-BWAY (2929) or see BroadwayInAugustaGA.com. Individual tickets will go on sale about six weeks before each show. All shows will be at Bell Auditorium.

Here’s the lineup:

• Blue Man Group (7:30 p.m. Jan. 14, 15): a theatrical show that combines comedy, music and technology.

• Rock Of Ages (7:30 p.m. Feb. 20): This musical features a mix of 28 ’80s tunes to tell the story of a small town girl falling in love with a big city rocker.

• Disney’s Beauty And The Beast (7:30 p.m. March 11): Based on the Academy Award-winning animated film, this musical is filled with unforgettable characters, lavish costumes, and dazzling production numbers including Be Our Guest.

• Green Day’s American Idiot (8 p.m. April 18): This two-time Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of three friends who are forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia.

• STOMP (7:30 p.m. April 29): A combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy using household and industrial objects.

• The Midtown Men (7:30 p.m. May 13): A review with favorite ’60s hits by The Beatles, The Rascals, The Four Seasons and others.



Pop Rocks: Augusta, my Christmas wish list has one thing

My family often accuses me of being a difficult person to Christmas shop for. While it is true that my tastes run toward the particular and tend to lean heavily on easy-to-wrap standards such as books and records, I believe that as I get older, I’m less concerned with the item than the idea. Give me something I believe you have thought about and carefully considered, and I’m happy. The present clearly purchased at the drug store the day before is met with considerably less enthusiasm.
