The Avett Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show are the headlining acts for the fifth annual Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que & Music Festival, set for May 23-24 in Evans.
Weekend passes cost $60 and go on sale online at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at www.banjobque.com. Local ticket outlets and VIP options will be announced later. Single-day tickets will cost $35 and $30 and will be sold at the gate only. Patrons ages 12 and younger will be admitted free.
The Avett Brothers will be the featured musical act that Friday at Evans Towne Center Park. The band last performed locally in 2011 at Bell Auditorium.
Old Crow Medicine Show is returning to Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que for the third time and will perform that Saturday.
Other artists announced include The Whiskey Gentry, an Atlanta-based band that has performed at Sky City, Still Water Tap Room and past Papa Joe’s festivals; The Little Roy & Lizzy Show, with bluegrass and gospel artist “Little Roy” Lewis and guitarist-fiddler Lizzy Long; and The Blue Dogs. The final artist lineup will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Memorial Day weekend event – 5-11 p.m. May 23, and noon-11 p.m. May 24 – also will include a Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event in which pit cookers from across the country will compete for $40,000, along with a petting zoo and pig races.
Proceeds benefit the Joseph R. Pond Memorial Foundation, which supports local charities.
