Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the publicist for Gabriel Iglesias. He is represented by Marleah Leslie & Associates of Los Angeles. The story has been corrected.
Expect to hear some stories, sound effects and laughter when Gabriel Iglesias brings his Stand-up Revolution Tour to Bell Auditorium.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14; doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 from georgialinatix.com, 877-4AUGTIX and at the James Brown Arena box office.
In the words of Ali Behar, with publicist Marleah Leslie & Associates of Los Angeles, Iglesias is “one of the most successful and sought-after stand-up comedians today.”
In addition to a career as a comedian, Iglesias is making a name for himself in feature film and television.
He was one of the voices in Disney’s animated Planes, which was released in August. His voice-over talent will also be featured in the upcoming animated film El Americano.
In April, Comedy Central aired Gabriel Iglesias: Aloha Fluffy, a two-hour comedy special that aired over two consecutive weekends. Now available on DVD and digital download, Aloha Fluffy follows Iglesias’ first two DVD specials, Hot and Fluffy and I’m Not Fat … I’m Fluffy, which sold more than 1 million copies.
Perhaps one of his more popular roles was in last summer’s blockbuster film Magic Mike, co-starring Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey.
Tatum is a long-time fan of Iglesias and personally sought him out for the role, according to Behar.
“His comedy is a mixture of storytelling, parodies, characters and sound effects, which bring all his personal experiences to life,” said Behar. “His comedy style has made him popular among fans of all ages.”
His television appearances include Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand-up Revolution, which premiered on Comedy Central in October 2011 and was one of the highest-rated stand-up series on the network. The series, with its third season set to air in the spring, stars Iglesias, who hosts and performs stand-up material and features an array of comedians whom he selects.
Iglesias was selected to headline the Amman Jordan Comedy Festival, the first of its kind in the Arab world. Touring in 2012 and 2013 included Canada, Australia, Europe, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
“His appeal continues to expand worldwide,” Behar said.
Katie Cason, the director of marketing at Bell Auditorium, said she is glad to welcome Iglesias to Augusta.
“We’re very excited,” she said. “We’ve had so many great acts in the past year. We appreciate the support of the CSRA in this and all our shows.”
