The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men in connection with the shooting death early today of 16-year old Brandon Desean Taylor.

Brandon Ira Le’Keith Helm, 18, of Warwick Place in Hephzibah, and Darian Deandre Postell, 19, of Thames Place in Hephzibah are charged with one count each of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, sheriff's Lt. Scott Peebles said. Both men are being held at the Richmond County jail without bond.

The incident is believed to have resulted from an altercation Monday evening in which Helm and another man were shot at while walking through Pepperidge subdivision. No one was hit, but it is believed that Helm, who is identified as the shooter, was retaliating against Taylor. Postell is believed to have accompanied Helm to the incident location and disposed of the weapon afterward.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible, Peebles said.

The shooting happened at 2:16 a.m. at a home at 3411 Monte Carlo Drive in the subdivision near Peach Orchard Road, police said.

The fatal shooting was the second this week. On Sunday 22-year-old Sergio Campbell was shot multiple times outside the McDonald’s at 2624 Deans Bridge Road.

Four people were arrested in connection with that fatal shooting and more arrests are expected to follow, according to investigators.

Personal responsibility never

Personal responsibility never seems to come up. There's more to parenting than telling your children right from wrong. There's the example of how to live. Is the location the problem in south Augusta or is it the culture? Is political correctness the right way to handle this situation, i.e. locking down all school activities? If our civic leaders don't address this problem at the root it will continue to spiral out of control.

I am sorry that you have had to feel such pain, but it comes through in your post to some of the other people being insensitive here. I hope their education comes through listening and learning instead of experience.

naturehazard: I was just making a general statement. However, the killer at large may just be a teen himself. So he should be at home at 2am, right?

johnston, though not a permanant solution, I do feel it was a good idea to temporarily suspend school activities. These kids are working off of raw emotion right now, these next couple of days are going to be critical in so many ways.

Hopefulinaugusta, I sort of disagree, what they really need right now while it is still burning in their learning brain is instead of activities, they need 2 or 3 hours lecture of the truth (without Political Correctness). A few minds and life's could be saved.

Where are the activist

Where are the activist reverends in all of this? We've got a gang war on our hands like it or not. They need to get out in the community and preach something other than who to vote for.

jamesmonty, I don't deny the need for some time for reflection and mourning, but to suspend the normal day, if that's what the did, is not right, in my opinion. I can tell you from being in high school during the Cuban missile crisis, we were scared to death, but life went on.

"Let someone come up to your window, would you know?" I'm 52 years old and no one has ever come up to my window to talk to me. Normal people do not do that. People either called me on the phone or came to my front door, like decent people.

KSL, the schools are scared

KSL, the schools are scared too, I can see how they would have better control of a situation by keeping students in one class all day instead of allowing class changes every 50 min. Remember this just happened this morning. One day to feel things out...

Cobalt your 5.55 is right on

Cobalt your 5.55 is right on however I would add one other thing. Establish a criminal/gang corner in every school. Post the kids picture, what they did, what their sentences were, when they will be out and what their current pictures look like. Maybe if kids walked by such a shrine they would think twice before acting like idiots. BTW we used to do this in the army and it was mandatory and it kept people informed of what would happen when they didn't listen. If you want to really get it across, issue kids school ID cards. When you go to detention or alt school take away the cards. Check cards at school functions. No card no entry. Also suspend car slots for bad behaviour, make them walk.

disssman, A no hold army

disssman, A no hold army lecture and your army SOP just might make an inpact on this growing gang situation. I think it would be more effective than what actions that will be taken by the PC liberial teachers and school officials.

Something is strange about this story. It is not normal for a 16 year old to be calmly sleeping, somebody knocks on the window, and then shoots him dead.

I had taken out a lot of what I wrote on the last post, after I read it I laughed. Obviously it's not normal. What I meant to say, is that this wasn't a random shooting.
