Retired businessman Brett McGuire will formally announce this evening his intention run for Columbia County Commission chairman.

McGuire will make the announcement at 6 p.m. during the grand opening of his campaign headquarters at 4158 Washington Road, Suite 10, Evans.

An Appling resident, McGuire is the former plant manager of Sweetheart Cup Co. of Augusta. He also once served as board chairman of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce.

Previously, he made two failed attempts to win seats in the state Legislature.

McGuire will take on commission Chairman Ron Cross, who announced his intention to seek a third term of office in November.

Good Luck... Taking on Cross

Good Luck... Taking on Cross is like taking on Boss Grantham. Maybe enough people are tired of tax and spend rhinos like Cross to make a change.

I believe it is a perfect

I believe it is a perfect time to take on Ron Cross. People are fed up with the status quo of government at all levels. Ron Cross needs to go. Time for some new ideas.

I'll vote for anyone who's running against Mr. Ron (Double) Cross. It's time we vote out all incumbents, from the local to the National level.
