Why can't RCSO can't set up a

Why can't RCSO can't set up a sting in that area? Or how about someone with a Concealed Carry Permit go for a walk there and rid society of these dregs. It wouldn't take but a couple of POS's to take a dirt nap, to change their attitudes.

Apparently this wasn't a very observant couple if they didn't realize where they were and that the sun was no longer out. Riverwalk is fine in the daytime, but they should know better at night. If the guy was carrying, he probably would have shot himself in the foot.

I like crackerjack's sting idea but I'm sure it's a resource issue. So we problaby need some viligantes to hang out down there and kill a few of the thugs ...

What we need to do is build

What we need to do is build more things downtown and eventually there will be no room for thugs to walk around. We could ask Margy and I am sure she would have some whiz bang ideas on the problem. Maybe she could get her private law department to look into solving the problem, but that would take away from the ticket masters, so I guess we need something else. I've got it!!! Just stay the H@!! out of a crime ridden area, stay out of Augusta.

Maybe they should put parking

Maybe they should put parking meters there too so that people will stay away from there too.

The problem with what you

The problem with what you suggest Crackerjack, is if Ronnie does it, there will be no dirt naps. That means there will be no deterrent. Anyone who so much as whispers, that RiverWalk, or for that matter downtown is safe after dark shows their stupidity to all. As I have said before, only during the FEW hours of First Friday, is there any possiblity of safety downtown. If DDA is going to use parking meter revenue for more full-time off duty patrols, then I'd be glad to pay. Otherwise, don't waste my time.

Get over it. People get

Get over it. People get robbed in parks all over America every day. Last year, there were a string of robberies after dark near the Waterfront Park in Charleston SC. Like Augusta is so special.

gee..this is what the "conventioneers" have to look forward to when the TEE CENTER is build, their evening activities will consist of: having their pictures taken w/the statue of james brown, outside of augusta national, strip clubs and getting robbed on the riverwatch...what great things to look forward to

This is getting to be

This is getting to be ridiculous. How hard is it to patrol that small area? Riverwalk is supposed to be our draw for visitors. This happened at 8:55 on a warm night. That's not that late. We have officers working specials all over the county. Maybe the hotels need to hire one for Riverwalk... silly as it sounds to have to pay to protect public property.

Why not just move Riverwalk

Why not just move Riverwalk to South Augusta. There are plenty of RCSO's patrolling that area.

When the TEE gets going and

When the TEE gets going and if we ever draw a convention, it's going to be happy days for the muggers down there. It's going to be like lions preying on a herd of zebras. First they will take those who look weak and slow as they thin the herd down.

They had better get downtown

They had better get downtown cleaned up before the first TEE Center convention. All it will take is ONE conventioneer to get robbed or beat up, and the TEE Center will go dark. Look at Atlanta -- when there is a convention going on @ the World Congress Center, there are Atlanta cops all over the place around WCC, The Dome, Omni Hotel, and Philips Arena. They know...!!

When I go out for my 3 to 4

When I go out for my 3 to 4 mile walk around the neighborhood (carrying at least a big stick), I usually see at least 3 officers' vehicles while I'm out. I watch for them because they are usually FLYING down the road, without sirens. Silent calls, I guess. I HOPE they are not speeding in a residential area for no reason. I just make sure I'm not crossing the road when they're approaching. Or for that matter, anyone else, people must think neighborhoods are race tracks around here.

Second Amendment---the right

Second Amendment---the right to keep & bear arms. Legally purchase a weapon. Learn to use the weapon properly.....get a concealed gun permit. Go where you want to go in Augusta-no place is a "safe haven" anymore. Pray that you don't have to use the gun--but be ready if you have to choose your life over a [filtered word]who's made a negative lifestyle choice.

Riverwalk isn't a

Riverwalk isn't a neighborhood. It won't be a tourist attraction if there isn't any security there. What a shame that such a beautiful area isn't safe - day or night - any more. I don't have a solution, but arming tourists seems counterproductive.

I laugh when people over

I laugh when people over exaggerate versus reality. People are robbed in diffrent parts of the CSRA weekly. I drive from Evans to read my books and relax. I love to read my books near the waterfall at the riverwalk. I'm usually walking on the riverwalk morning, afternoon, and after dark. I have never had any problems once. There are plenty of folks out on the riverwalk every night. I bet the people saying it isn't safe at night. I bet they haven't been to the riverwalk at night in years. If you use commons sense you will be fine. Two of my co-workers live downtown. They use the riverwalk regularly also.

Once the TEE center is built

Once the TEE center is built you'd better believe there will be a greater police presence on the Riverwalk as well as the rest of downtown.

mrlonglegs: It is the element

mrlonglegs: It is the element of surprise. You have a concealed weapon, and when the thief thinks you are reaching for your wallet, instead you come out with a S&W and take care of business. The key here is to use the weapon upon presenting it, or you might still wind up on the wrong side of the news.

You guys ... quit spreading

You guys ... quit spreading the wrong information. There is no CCP in Georgia. Georgia has a GFL ... which allows open carry and concealed carry. There is a CCP for SC residents but they cannot carry legally on the Riverwalk(No reciprocity with Ga). Roundabout I prefer the words Springfield Armory.

Having your weapon in plain

Having your weapon in plain view won't change much. If an armed robber wants your goods and see you have a weapon, he'll just shoot you first, then take what he wants, including your gun. I'm not against arming yourself, I'm just saying it's not the answer. Citizens need to come together and take back there neighborhoods and cities! I tell the kids I mentor all the time...It doesn't matter how "big and bad" you think you are, there is always someone out there "bigger and badder"...that applies to all you "good folk" with guns as well. Be a part of the solution, not the problem. Start with our kids! Some parents aren't doing there jobs, we get that...but the kids are here nonetheless. You can either sit back, complain, and be afraid to go out at night OR you can help by trying to guide the misguided down the right path!

Js ee, I never said that open

Js ee, I never said that open carrying would change anything. But when people say CCP it gives other Georgians the impression that people cannot open carry. Thus creating panic when they see a law abiding citizen openly carrying a gun. I want that misconception to end.
