Insurance commissioner's hunting party hit by shot

ATLANTA — A spokesman for John Oxendine's gubernatorial campaign says a member of the state insurance commissioner's hunting party was sprayed by shot when a shotgun accidentally discharged.

Campaign spokesman David Crim says Oxendine was hunting with his sons on Sunday at a quail hunting preserve in northwest Georgia when the accident occurred and someone was slightly wounded.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Crim says Oxendine was neither the shooter nor the person who was shot.

Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Robin Hill says the department is investigating.

Crim said neither Oxendine nor his sons had hunting licenses, but did not need them because they were hunting on a licensed quail preserve.
