Corduray Keith Scott, 22, of 1814 Fayetteville Drive, is charged with first-degree cruelty to children, according to Richmond County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Peebles.
An ambulance brought the baby to University Hospital Monday after she found it trembling and “appearing to have a seizure,” according to the warrant application for Mr. Scott’s arrest.
Lt. Peebles said the child is on life support, but is not expected to survive. It suffered from nine broken ribs and two detached retinas, he said.
“All of it’s indicative of shaken baby (syndrome),” Lt. Peebles said.
During an interview, the suspect said he was supervising the baby when he became aggravated because the child would not stop crying, the warrant application said.
He said he held the child to his chest in what “appeared to be a bear hug” and began squeezing the child while jumping up and down for between two and three minutes. Mr. Scott said afterward, the child stopped crying and began to quietly moan, the warrant application said. He then put the child into a stand alone swing and left him there until he was found by his mother about an hour later.
