The owners of Rhe Restaurant at The Willcox announced this morning that they’ve purchased the historic Aiken hotel, the Willcox Inn, from Garrett Hotel Group.

Details of the deal were not disclosed.

Vermont-based Garrett Hotel Group has owned the hotel at 100 Colleton Ave. S.W. since 2000.

“We were so thrilled when the opportunity arose to purchase the hotel,” said Geoff Ellis.

He grew up in Aiken and returned home last year to open The Restaurant at The Willcox with his wife Shannon.

“While the restaurant has been open a short time, it has been long enough for us to realize that The Willcox has a great future. It’s an integral part of Aiken’s history and what better year for it to start a new life than 2010 when Aiken celebrates its 175th birthday,” Mr. Ellis said.

The Willcox Inn was operated from 1898 to 1957 by members of the Willcox family.

The new owners said they want to continue the tradition of the Willcox as “the living room of the community.”
