Aiken Department of Public Safety said Leviel Priester of Aiken had surrendered.

He was wanted on charges of assault and battery with the intent to kill, said Sgt. Aaron Dowdy. He is accused of shooting his girlfriend’s former boyfriend, Rahmel Oliver, at a home in the 1000 block of Alford Street around 1:30 a.m., Sgt. Dowdy said.

Investigators believe a that Mr. Priester was not defending himself as his girlfriend told police, Sgt. Dowdy said.

"What we were told does not match up with evidence at the scene," he said.

According to the girlfriend, who has not been named, she and Mr. Priester were sitting in their home early this morning when Mr. Oliver began banging on the door. Mr. Priester went outside to confront Mr. Oliver, and the two began fighting.

Mr. Oliver penned Mr. Priester down at one point and began choking him, according to the report. Mr. Priester’s girlfriend told police she tried to help, and as she did her .38 caliber handgun fell out of her pocket and on the ground. Mr. Priester then picked the gun up and shot Mr. Oliver in the leg.
