Thigpen chosen vice chairman of Columbia County Commision

Columbia County Commissioner Ron Thigpen was named today vice chairman of the commission for a second year in a row.

Mr. Thigpen also was appointed chairman of the county’s Public Works Services Committee. Other committee chairmanships decided today include Commissioner Scott Dean over the Management and Financial Services Committee, Trey Allen heading the Community and Emergency Services Committee, and Commissioner Charles Allen chairing the Development Services Committee.

The Management and Financial Services and Public Works Services committees will meet at 8 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Meeting at 9 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month will be Community and Emergency Services and Development Services committees.

In other meeting news, the commission approved hiring Stephen Exley as the county’s new Road Construction manager. He previously served as an engineer at Reynold’s Plantation.

Mr. Exley will earn $73,500 each year in salary, in addition to a monthly car and Blackberry allowance.

He replaced the retiring Ronnie Hutto.
