An Augusta woman who police say left her children at home alone to go partying on New Year’s Eve has been arrested.

Lashanda Denise Mobley, 26, of the 2000 block of Second Avenue, is charged with two counts of contributing to the deprivation of a minor, according to jail records.

A sheriff’s report says that the mother left her two children at home to go to Club Cream.

Ms. Mobley’s 9-year-old daughter called 911 after hearing what sounded like gunshots outside their apartment. An officer responded to the call and found the girl and a 4-year-old boy at the apartment by themselves. The mother arrived back home after she had been gone for over three hours.

The children were placed in the custody of a family member by the Division of Family and Children Services, the report says.

Yes but leaving a child that

Yes but leaving a child that is only 9 to care for one that is 4 is not good. There are all kinds of things that could come up that a child of 9 could not handle.

My children are 9 and 4 and

My children are 9 and 4 and I'd NEVER leave them alone. I'm glad these children were removed from the home and placed in someone else's custody. If you are old enough to have children, you are old enough to realize that your responsibility lies in taking care of them, not going out and partying.

Debster, unfortunately it

Debster, unfortunately it does not take a brain to get knocked up so sadly unless they start sterilizing stupid people this will go on and on and on unless people like me and others take these kids in. It does NOT hurt my feelings when they get busted out for neglecting the kids and have them removed from the home. Wish I could take them all, but I can't. I don't get the social "stimulus" from the government that these people do, but I will still raise the child and keep him safe.

Why would you expect anything

Why would you expect anything else of someone who is not willing to provide themselves a home, but would rather let government steal from producers to give her one.

When I think back 30 years ,

When I think back 30 years , I have left my child alone after school for couple of hours, but times where different then, and if your child is trained that helps. When you are a single parent, sometime you have to pray alot , but not to go out at night to party and drink.

Coolette, the legal age in

Coolette, the legal age in Georgia is 12. Below that, it's judged on the circumstances, but since going out to drink and party is not a necessity, it's a crime.

kiseta, I remember when I was

kiseta, I remember when I was 6 years old, I would walk home from school by myself and stay until my mom came home from work a couple of hours later (my father was in Viet Nam). I would go play at my friend's house and come back to an empty home. Thank goodness times were so much more different then. It taught me alot...independence, unselfishness, bravado, common sense. No, I certainly do NOT recommend it nowadays! This mother WAS thinking, but only of herself! She did not think of her children, otherwise she wouldn't have left them.

For the children...I am glad

For the children...I am glad nothing really bad happened and they are safe.......For the mother...You need some really serious help and I hope you get it......For the Posters on this story.....Saying stupid things and making derogatory comments( I see who you are) about people who do stupid things...does not help! It really means that YOU need help too! Here is a little food for thought....What if these comments were just filled with sincere helpful advice for the people who need it?!

Corgimom...come on:-) That is why good common sense postings with sincere helpful advice would be a better approach. Name calling, derogatory comments and even people who post comments start to "attack" each other. Real people want to help people... who need help and encourage them to help themselves.. not hurt them more than they are hurting themselves and others. Just a thought!
