S.C. escapee still being sought

South Carolina authorities are searching for an inmate who walked away from the minimum-security Catawba Pre-Release Center in Rock Hill on Saturday.

William Newcomb was confirmed missing from the prison about 5:30 p.m.

Newcomb is white, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the S.C. Department of Corrections' Fugitive Apprehension Unit at (877) 349-2130 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

After 5 p.m., call (803) 896-2258, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division at (803) 737-9000 or local law enforcement.

Newcomb was convicted in Lexington County and started serving a 3-year sentence for financial identity fraud 8/18/2008.
